PUBLIC WORKS MAINTENANCE WORKER

 

Starting Salary:  $13.16 per hour

 

DEFINITION: 

 

Under general supervision, performs a variety of semi-skilled duties associated with the maintenance and upkeep of the Town of Wickenburg?s streets, water distribution and/or collection systems, buildings and surrounding grounds and sanitation services.

TASKS: 

 

Installs, inspects and maintains water mains and services, wastewater mains and services, fire hydrants, sanitation and related systems; operates a variety of hand, mechanical, light construction and other equipment associated with installing and repairing services and systems; responds to water leak, sewer problems and related lift station reports; operates backhoe, loaders, graders, and boom trucks; locates and marks existing utility lines; repairs and/or replaces meters, pipes, conduit, wiring and other utility-related items; conducts routine to specialized cleaning and maintenance duties involving flushing of water lines, testing of valves and installation/maintenance of pumps, and installation of electrical conduit.

 

As assigned, installs and repairs electrical systems, fencing, performs carpentry and related work; picks up and delivers construction and related supplies and equipment; sets up concrete forms, finishes concrete; performs basic carpentry duties; as required, performs a variety of grounds maintenance and related duties; trims and/or removes trees, bushes and hedges; sweeps parking lot, sidewalks and surrounding areas; assesses and diagnoses water system problems; undertakes needed repairs and performs routine maintenance on well heads, valves, pumps and other components; maintains records of work done.

 

Performs other duties as assigned or required.

           

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS: 

 

¨       Knowledge of applicable local, county, state and Federal statutes, rules, regulations, ordinances, codes, Town of Wickenburg policies and procedures, departmental policies and procedures and other governing documents.

¨       Knowledge of basic to intermediate principles related to plumbing, electrical repairs and maintenance, carpentry, grounds and building maintenance.

¨       Knowledge of tools and techniques related to a variety of construction-related repair and maintenance functions to streets, water, sewer and electricity.

¨       Skill in reading, understanding, interpreting and applying information sources, operational policies and procedures, guidelines and directives.

¨       Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, other departments, vendors, contractors, the general public and others having business with the Town of Wickenburg. 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

 

A high school diploma or GED AND one (1) year of relevant, experience in construction, utilities, maintenance, grounds maintenance or closely related responsibilities.

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: 

 

May be exposed to extreme weather conditions, potential physical harm, hazardous chemicals, infectious diseases, dangerous machinery, snakes, insects and vermin.

 

Must have or be able to obtain a valid Arizona Driver?s License with Commercial Endorsement.

 

Must be able to obtain within six months of employment and must retain a State of Arizona Water Distribution certificate.

 

May be required to lift and/or carry heavy, bulky supplies and materials weighing up to 100 pounds.
