HEAD LIBRARIAN

 

Salary Range is $20.02-30.03 per hour

 

DEFINITION:  Under general supervision, manages, supervises and administers all functions, programs and services associated with the operation of the Town of Wickenburg’s Public Library.

TASKS: 

 

Assists in identifying, proposing, implementing and monitoring long and short term strategic planning; assists in establishing and monitoring goals and objectives; identifies staffing, equipment, materials and other needs; incorporates into the budget process; assists in compiling, presenting, justifying and monitoring budget; reviews and approves purchases, procurement and other expenditures; assists in establishing, maintaining and updating Library policies and procedures.  Photocopies a variety of materials and operates standard office equipment.

 

Recommends Public Library hours and days of service; participates in staff hiring, promotions, suspension and/or termination; manages staff training, assignments and reviews work; conducts performance appraisals; oversees scheduling; may represent the Library when working with civic organizations, individuals and others in the community regarding volunteers, volunteer services and related matters.

 

Identifies new and enhancements to existing programs and services; reviews and recommends approval of library development, book collection enhancements, overdue collection processes, facility maintenance and security and other areas of responsibility; works with other libraries to coordinate resources and services; works with patrons and others having business at the Library; recommends/finds books, periodicals and other publications in response to requests/needs; maintains a variety of files and records associated with Library usage, customer contact, services provided and related areas.

 

Performs other duties as assigned or required.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS: 

 

¨       Knowledge of applicable local, county, state and Federal statutes, rules, regulations, ordinances, codes, Town of Wickenburg policies and procedures, departmental policies and procedures and other governing documents.

¨       Knowledge of the principles of management and supervision.

¨       Knowledge of the principles of file and records management.

¨       Knowledge of the principles of Dewey Decimal system, cataloging procedures and inventory control.

¨       Knowledge of the principles of public budgeting, accounting and/or bookkeeping.

¨       Knowledge of community resources and the concepts of customer service and customer care.

¨       Skill in reading, understanding, interpreting and applying a variety of complex, often conflicting information sources, operational policies and procedures, guidelines and directives.

¨       Skill in management and staff supervision.

¨       Skill in researching, analyzing and determining trends in Public Libraries, Library services and related areas.

¨       Skill in developing and implementing Library programs and services.

¨       Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, other departments, vendors, contractors, the general public and others having business with the Town of Wickenburg. 

¨       Skill in operating a computer utilizing a variety of software applications

¨       Skill in researching, analyzing and determining trends relating to collection development and related services.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

 

A bachelor’s degree in library science, English, liberal arts, business administration or closely related field AND six (6) years of relevant, progressively responsible experience in a library, office or closely related work environment that includes at least two (2) years of management/supervision; or any equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible experience with additional work experience substituting for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: 

 

Must be able to obtain a valid Arizona Driver’s License.

 

May be exposed to infectious diseases.

 

Works outside the normal work schedule.

 

May be required to climb ladders, unload boxes, lift and/or carry heavy, bulky supplies and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
